A delightful ghost-shaped cake that’s perfect for Halloween gatherings, combining sweetness with spooky charm.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 3 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for icing)
  • Black edible marker (for ghost faces)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a cupcake or muffin pan.
  2. Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl, whisking together and setting aside.
  3. Cream the softened butter and sugar in a separate large bowl until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. Combine the dry ingredients with the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fill the pan with the batter, filling each cup about 2/3 full.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow cooling in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Prepare the icing by mixing the powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth, adjusting the consistency with more milk or sugar as needed.
  9. Frost the cooled cakes generously with the icing.
  10. Decorate using a black edible marker to draw ghost faces on the icing.

Notes

Ensure butter and eggs are at room temperature for better mixing. Don’t overmix, and check for doneness a few minutes early to avoid over-baking.
